Endorphins and Exercise

Endorphins are a hormone produced in the body to help deal with pain. They act on the body in a fashion similar to morphine and help to relieve pain and stress, and can go a long way to helping a person get over the feelings of depression. As such, it would stand to reasons that if a person is depressed, or stressed that causing an endorphin release would help to relax them.  There are many ways to release endorphins, but the method that has the most over all benefits is exercise.

Endorphins In Chocolate, A Tasty Way To Feel Better

It's not exactly a secret that people love chocolate, and that when your stressed you tend to crave comfort foods in the form of sweets, most containing chocolate. In fact, especially around my group of friends, the common phrase synonymous with "I'm having a bad day" is usually "I need chocolate". But have you ever wondered why chocolate has that effect on people?

Chocolate actually does more then release endorphins, it contains several natural chemicals and neurotransmitters that react positively on not only your body, but your mood and mental state as well.

Some Of The Best Endorphins, Are Massage Endorphins!

Endorphins are a wonderful thing in life, they help to regulate pain, increase your mood and help you to relax in the short term. Long term endorphins are even more helpful, activating the bodies immune system, helping to reduce diseases and kill cancerous cells, and even help to slow the aging process.

So with all of these benefits of endorphins a cynical person would expect it to come at a high price, and if you don't like exercise that can seem like it's true. Working out, even something as simple as a walk can release endorphins into your system. But whether you like to work out or not there is a way that is, in my opinion even better then working out to get endorphins... A good old fashioned massage!

Can I Have An Endorphins Addiction?

Endorphins are a naturally released hormone in the body, it is released as a natural pain reliever and is designed to help us get through situations of increased physical, or emotional stress. But is it really possible to have an Endorphins Addiction?

The answer is a bit of a sticky one, it's not so much that you can become addicted to endorphins as it is more that you can become addicted to the activity that causes you to produce the endorphins, mainly over exercising. This does not mean that you should not exercise, in fact just the opposite you should exercise 5 to 6 days a week if possible. The problem seems to arise when you get to the point in your exercise routine where if you miss a day you become very irritable and just generally in a bad mood. Lets explore some of the things you can do for this shall we?

What Causes Sleep Paralysis?

What Is Sleep Paralysis?
The term sleep paralysis refers to being unable to move just before entering or leaving sleep, it can also be accompanied by a feeling of pressure, like something is pressing on your chest, or a choking feeling. It is a harmless occurrence but can be very stressful if you don't understand what is happening or why, it can also be disturbing if it occurs after particularly frightening dreams.

What Causes Sleep Paralysis?
When you sleep your body moves between different phases of sleep, including Rapid Eye Movement Sleep or REM sleep. Dreaming occurs during REM sleep and as a precaution to avoid injury our body will turn off our muscles ability to move. That way if your having a dream about going for a jog you don't end up kicking your dresser, or your spouse while you are having your dream. What causes sleep paralysis is when your body doesn't get the signal to turn your muscles back on and you wake up without the ability to move for a few seconds to a few minutes. This can be a very disturbing and frightening but isn't harmful.

Benefits of Walking

The Benefits of Walking are varied and many and can have a very positive effect on your stress level, your mood, help you to manage depression, manage your weight, help anxiety, lower your risk of cancer, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, lower your cholesterol and increase bone density and strength.

The reason that walking gives you all of these benefits has to do with the way your body handles low levels of exercise for extended periods. When you exercise, regardless of the type of exercise or the duration, your muscles tissue will become torn on a microscopic level. These small rips in the muscle tissue are completely normal. Your body, to combat the damage, goes to work to repair the muscle. One of the first things that your body will do is to release Endorphins and Serotonin. These two chemicals cause you to feel happy, they are your bodies own personal form of pain killers and mood enhancers. So this helps you to naturally lower your stress level.

Easy Way to Manage Depression

Depression is one of the most common and wide spread mood disorders that exists today. Everyone has experienced depression at one point or another in their life for any one of a billion reasons. The hardest thing with depression is trying to fight it. Fortunately There are also many ways which fight depression and help you to get your life together.

One of the ways to help you Manage your depression is go for a walk every day outside. A lot of the times depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain, going for a walk will increase the levels of Serotonin and Endorphins in your body. Both Serotonin and Endorphins will help you to manage your depression. And the best part is the effects will last for days.

So to help you manage depression, I advise you to try walking for 30 to 60 minutes a day, outside, and in the company of friends if you can. The combination of sunlight, human companionship, fresh air, and the release of Endorphins and Serotonin will help to increase your mood and battle your depression. This does not have to be a fast paced walk, you can take it as slow as you want and as casually as you want. If you can't make 30 minutes a day simply walk until you no longer feel comfortable, every little bit will help.

To avoid injuries make sure you have a good pair of shoes and form fitting socks. If you don't you may develop a blister. If you do develop a blister don't pick it or pop it. Sterilize a needle or straight pin and make one small poke in the blister. Then allow it to drain out on it's own. You may wish to cover it with a bandage. Continue to wear the bandage over the blister when you walk for the next several days to give the skin time to heal.

The key to this is to go for a walk every day. If you can't walk outside, go to the mall and walk around there, or the grocery story, or the hardware store, anyplace where you can just walk for a few minutes will help you to manage depression.
